What to write about

Corrections are the most valuable mail the journal receives. If a guide misstates a process, a date or a document, say which page and what the record shows, and the correction will be made and dated. Subject suggestions are equally welcome: the sections cover Australian infrastructure, water, planning and the consulting profession, and a question a reader cannot answer is usually a guide worth writing.

Documents and sources can be suggested the same way. The journal's method relies on public records, so a pointer to a register, a report or a dataset a guide has missed is always useful.

What not to expect

The Datum does not carry advertising, sponsored content, guest posts or link placements, and it does not respond to commercial pitches of any kind. It is not the former occupant of this domain and cannot assist with enquiries meant for any company that previously used it. Personal enquiries about specific projects, properties or legal matters are outside what an editorial inbox can answer.

Response expectations

Mail is answered when there is something to answer. Corrections and genuine editorial questions receive replies; commercial solicitations do not. The about page describes the journal's scope, and the legal notice covers privacy and the handling of messages.
